Holley, New York lies along the banks of the historic Erie Canal in lovely Orleans County. Named in honor of the canal commissioner, Myron Holley, a vital and dynamic man who helped shape the future of Western NY, the village incorporated in 1867. Formerly known as the hamlet of Salt Port, for the salt spring that flows here, Holley grew to a village with the advent of the Canal. Today it lies within the boundary of the town of Murray, which extends for 31 square miles and includes several villages and hamlets. Holley covers 1.3 square miles.

Holley reported its population as 1,802 in the 2000 Census. Murray had 6,259 residents. The NY 2003 estimate for Holley showed a decrease in population, with 1,762 citizens counted. Holley's per capita income was over $17,000 and the median household income, $36,000. Home mortgage costs averaged $880 and rentals averaged $413.

Holley, NY is part of the affluent and expanding Rochester Metropolitan Area. Orleans County lies situated on the banks of Lake Ontario, opposite the shores of Canada. Known as a highly pro-business area with an excellent transportation infrastructure, Orleans County businesses take advantage of Canadian, Rochester and Buffalo markets. Numerous incentives are in place to attract new firms, and Orleans County holds the lucrative designation of a New York Empire Zone.

Holley is 29 miles west of Rochester and 62 miles east of Buffalo. The smaller but lively city of Batavia is only 20 miles distant. Holley residents average a 24-minute commute time to work, a little under the national average. Educational, health and social services provide 26% of employment for Holley, manufacturing, 19% and retail trade, almost 13%.

The proximity to Rochester provides the village of Holley with a full scale of city amenities, while residents can enjoy the qualities of small-town life. Eighteen excellent colleges and universities lie within a forty-mile radius of Holley. This includes SUNY Brockport, the Rochester Institute of Technology and the Finger Lakes Community College. For students seeking religious studies, a fine array of institutes are here, such as the Talmudical Institute of Upstate New York, Saint Bernard's School of Theology and Ministry and the Christ the King Seminary.

Orleans County provides a water wonderland for visitor and residents. Lake Ontario, Oak Orchard River, Six Flags Darien Lake and Niagara Falls all are within a short drive. Numerous golf courses in the gently rolling hills give Holley residents warm-weather challenges. The Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge and nearby Letchworth State Park offer four-season fun, laced with miles of trails to hike in warm weather, or to snowmobile and cross-country ski in the snowy winter splendor.

Holley, New York retains the grace and charm of village life, while surrounded by the natural beauty contained in Orleans County. Large cities loom nearby, but Holley residents choose a more tranquil lifestyle.
